Emily Brink had her life radically changed by God during a college semester spent abroad in Austria. That personal experience lit a fire in Emily’s life for the importance of discipling students in their relationships with Christ. It took a few years to see how God intended to use that passion; but, as He does, God fit all the pieces together and Emily has been on staff with Global Year, serving as a Student Life Director, since May of 2013.
Q&A with Emily:
If you weren’t in ministry, what would you be doing? Why?
That’s a great question – hopefully it would be something involving travel, loving people, and active adventures (oddly similar to what I do now) 🙂 !
What’s on your plate for dinner?
Preferably something delicious and healthy – I’m not picky and am still waiting for that personal chef to show up.
Talk about how your childhood has affected your life today.
I am the youngest of three girls, born and raised in small town Pennsylvania. My parents both came to Christ later in their lives so it was incredible important to them that we be raised in the church and immersed in scripture. I have been so blessed by their example and their encouragement over the years. They have never wavered in their support of my sisters and I, and have always encouraged us to pursue whatever God was calling us to!
When did you make Jesus your Lord and Savior?
I came to Christ as a young child at the age of five, but spent my high school and college years sorting out what it actually meant to have a personal, intimate relationship with Christ as Lord and Savior.
Other than Jesus, who has been an influential person(s) in your life?
My parents have both been hugely influential people in my life. Obviously they are my parents so it would be difficult for them to not influence me, but their biggest influence has come in their decisions to also be my friends. I have learned so much from each of them over the years and truly am so grateful for the safe, open space they have given me to sort through life, ask questions, and share stories.
What Bible verse do I want to best describe me?
“[Her] master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things, I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!’ – Matthew 25:23
What’s my favorite movie?
An important thing to know about me is that I pretty much cannot pick a favorite anything. There are too many options and it totally depends on my mood!
Other than Jesus, who would I most like to have lunch with? Why?
This may sounds cheesy, but there really is no one in particular that comes to mind. I really would just like to have lunch with anyone who has lived a life pursing God with their whole being – the stories of His awesomeness that they would have to tell would be amazing!
What is my secret ambition?
It’s not really a secret, but I really hope to be a wife and a mother someday. Other than that, I just want to embrace as many adventures and experiences as God puts in my path.
What favorite books are on your shelf?
About the “favorites” thing… 🙂
